The camera company is finally bringing its EOS M3, the third-generation mirrorless camera in the EOS M series, to the U.S. after announcing it for global release earlier this year. With a 24.2-megapixel APS-C-sized image sensor, the M3 can easily replace any entry-level DSLR camera.
The camera has Canon's proprietary DIGIC6 image processor and a 49-point autofocus system. Its ISO setting is adjustable from 100-12800. Video recording tops out at 1080p resolution (sorry, 4K fans) in several frame rates (24p, 25p and 30p). It's also got built-in Wi-Fi and NFC for pairing to smartphones and tablets.
The screen tilts down 45 degrees and all the way up to 180 degrees for selfies and vlogging.
Beginners shouldn't worry about not being able to figure out the camera's myriad buttons and dials. The M3 has a Creative Assist mode designed just for beginners to come to terms with depth of field, filters and other settings using the touchscreen.
There's no built-in electronic viewfinder like the ones on, but there's a hot shoe on the top to attach an external one. There's also a built-in pop-up flash.
The M3 will be available in September in black or white for $679.99 (body only) and $799.99 with an 18-55mm kit lens. A two-lens kit bundle with a 18-55mm kit lens and 55-200mm telephoto lens will also be sold for $1,049.
